Jasus edwardsii, the Southern Rock Lobster (aka Red Rock Lobster, or Spiny Rock Lobster) lives in the coastal waters of southern Australia and New Zealand. They resemble lobsters but lack large pincers on the first pair of walking legs. Australia has an established export industry of wild rock lobsters especially from Southern Australia which currently harvest about 3000 tonnes a year. South Australia has limited aquaculture has retains numerous mature lobsters in cages on Kangaroo Island for sale during the off-season. The season begins in November and ends in May.
